CPD for architects: ARB topics and RIBA hours

For architects registered with ARB, and RIBA chartered members.

What the Architects Registration Board asks for

ARB requires one topic per activity — pick the most relevant. You can't choose several. RIBA is a membership body, not a regulator. Chartered members need 35 hours a year, including 2 in each topic.

Source: ARB’s own guidance. Where this page and your regulator disagree, your regulator is right — we are not your regulator and do not speak for one.

What each activity is recorded against

ARB requires one topic per activity — pick the most relevant. You can't choose several.

  • F — Fire and life safety (mandatory topic)
  • E — Environmental sustainability (mandatory topic)
  • O — Other — general professional development

Common questions

Can one activity count for more than one ARB topic?

No. The ARB scheme asks for the single most relevant topic, which is why this app makes it a single choice here and a multiple one elsewhere.

Next step

Your CPD record: One topic per activity, as the ARB scheme requires, with hours totalled for RIBA.
